We were down to the last few apples in the bag we had picked two weeks ago, and I picked up some Honeycrisp (my FAVORITE) at the farmer’s market. I’m not even sure what types of apples are in this applesauce…honeycrisp for sure, and combination of several others we had picked at the orchard. You know, when you’ve got 2 eight year old helpers, you lose track of what’s going in the bag.
I have been adding pumpkin to practically everything else, so I thought why not in the “applesauce”?
Crockpot Pumpkin-Apple Sauce
10 apples (it tastes better if you use a variety of apples)
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup water
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
*Peel, core, and chop the apples. Put them in the crockpot.
*Add the pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, water, and brown sugar. Stir it a few times to incorporate it.
*Cook on HIGH for 4 hours. Stir occasionally.
*After 4 hours, mash the apples with a potato masher, or puree in the food processor.
*Refrigerate or freeze.
I think that if you warm the applesauce a little in the microwave, that it would be really good on Pumpkin Pancakes.
