Family Photo Tile and a Free Cut File

I created this Family Photo Tile for the August Silhouette Challenge, using an idea I had seen in one of my Cameo Facebook groups.  Yes, Facebook groups exist for those of us who loooove our Cameos and let me say, the groups I’m in are super helpful!  Anyway, I created the Family Photo Tile using a 12×12 tile that my husband has scads of.  He bought them at Home Depot, on major clearance, and must have at least three boxes of them :).

Family Photo Tile using a Silhouette Cameo, vinyl and a favorite picture. This would make an easy and cute gift!

So, today I want to share with you how I made this Family Photo Tile….and YOU get a FREE cut file out of it.  If, for some reason, the link to the file doesn’t work, let me know.  It should go directly to your Downloads, and you can open it in your Silhouette Studio Software from there.  If not, email me at foundmyfavorite@gmail.com, and I’ll send it to you as an attachment :).  This file is created for a 12×12 tile.  Remember, the design is for PERSONAL use only, not for commercial use.

Supplies:

Silhouette Cameo

12×12 tile

651 Vinyl {I used a chocolate brown color}

4×6 acrylic frame {found mine at JoAnn’s}

Hot glue

Tabletop Easel {also found at JoAnn’s}

To create this, I opened a new file in Silhouette Studio.

I added a 4×6 rectangle in the top right corner of my file, because that is where I was going to place the picture.  Do this first, so you can arrange the quote around it.

Next, I added “Having somewhere to go is”, and positioned it to the left of my rectangle.  Then, I chose a fancier font and added “Home”.

I continued this with the rest of my quote.  I used the “Aubrey” font for the “Having someone….” part of the quote and a script font for the words “Home”, “Family”, and “Blessing”.  For more fun fonts, check out my “Fashionable Fonts” board on Pinterest.

Now, time to cut.  I loaded my Silhouette with chocolate brown vinyl.  While it was cutting, I hot glued my frame to the upper right hand corner of the tile.

After it was finished, I cut out the “Having somewhere to go is” with scissors, because I didn’t want to attempt to apply the WHOLE quote at once.  So, I cut it out, leaving some border around it, weeded it, and then applied it with transfer paper.  Since I applied it in individual parts, it was easier to line it up and also to position it around the frame.

I added a picture of our family beach vacation, and I was done!

I’m planning on making one for my grandma for her birthday.  And probably several for Christmas gifts.  It’s so simple, even a beginner can do it.
