Do you have little kids on your “gift list” who love to doodle, draw, or color? With a few supplies you probably already have around the house, you can make a cute gift for any occasion. Mine are Christmas gifts for my cousin’s little girls….I love to get them a little something for Christmas, and these turned out rather cute and easy.
Supplies:
*Mod Podge
*Paint brush
*White paper (I used regular printer paper)
*Scrapbook paper
*Cereal box or other thin cardboard
*Scissors or paper cutter
*Wax paper (to cover the work surface)
*Binder Clips
*Stickers
Directions:
1. Cut the cereal box to your desired size. Since mine are for little girls, I made them about 5 inches wide by about 8 inches long.
2. Next, cut two pieces of scrapbook paper the same size as the cereal box. Apply a thin layer of mod podge to the PRINTED side of the cardboard, and to the back of the scrapbook paper. Adhere your scrapbook paper to the cardboard and smooth out the wrinkles. After this has dried a bit, turn it over and mod podge another piece of scrapbook paper to the other side. Now your cereal box should be covered on both sides with paper.
3. Sweep another lay of Mod Podge over the scrapbook paper’s surface on both sides. This is where the wax paper comes in handy. You can lay down a wet “mod podged” paper on it and it won’t stick permanently.
4. While this is drying, cut white paper to the same size as your cardboard. I cut about 15 sheets of paper, and each notepad has about 30 sheets to draw/write on.
5. Stack the paper and lay it on the cardboard backing. Tap it down on a hard surface, so all the papers are lined up neatly. Clip it together, a few inches from the top, with the binder clips.
6. With your paintbrush, apply a medium layer of mod podge along the top of the pad. Try not to let too much spread on the sides of the pad.
7. Let it dry, then continue to apply a medium layer of mod podge 5-6 more times. Let it dry a little between each application.
8. Using a coordinating piece of scrapbook paper, cut it the length of your pad and about 3 inches wide. In my case, I cut it 5 inches long and 3 inches wide. This will be the top of your pad.
9. Apply a layer of mod podge on the top 3 inches of your paper pad, and on the back of your strip of scrapbook paper. Adhere the paper to the top. You should still have 3 inches hanging over.
10. Fold down the remaining paper on the back of the pad and mod podge it. Now, sweep a nice layer of mod podge over each side of the top.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET MOD PODGE ON THE PAPER YOU’LL BE WRITING ON.
11. When the mod podge is dry, you can personalize the top tab with stickers. In my case, I put each girl’s name at the top of hers along with a cute saying.
I was inspired to make these from Sarah at of Green Tables. Hers are super cute, too! She uses ledger pads of paper….which if you have some on hand, would be easy. All you have to do is put the coordinating paper along the top edge and decorate it!
Very cute! If you get a chance, I'd love to have you link up to my party at http://scrapbookingez.blogspot.com/2011/12/anything-goes-linky-party.html. Thanks for sharing!
