Star Wars Day at Sea on the Disney Fantasy

When our family boarded the Disney Fantasy for our 7-Night Western Caribbean sailing, we knew we were in for a special treat since it was a Star Wars Day at Sea itinerary.  But what exactly could we expect from Disney Cruise Line on a Star Wars Day at Sea sailing? It turned out to be awesome, and definitely something extra special!  Today I am going to share with you our Star Wars Day at Sea experience on the Disney Fantasy.

Star Wars Day at Sea on the Disney Fantasy takes place on select sailings Jan-March. Great tips and tricks to make this an out of this world experience! #starwars #starwarsdayatsea #disneycruiseline #disneyfantasy #disneytraveltips

What is Star Wars Day at Sea?

Star Wars Day at Sea takes place only on the Disney Fantasy.  The Disney Fantasy sails the Western and Eastern Caribbean out of Port Canaveral, and she is the sister ship to the Disney Dream. Having already sailed the Disney Dream, we were so excited to be on a somewhat familiar ship, but to a different destination.  On the Western Caribbean Itinerary, we sailed to Falmouth, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Castaway Cay.

With the twins being huge Star Wars fans, we were super excited when we found out that this was going to be a Star Wars Day at Sea sailing.  These itineraries take place typically January-early March, and we had booked this as a placeholder on our first cruise.  At the time we booked it, it was not officially a Star Wars Day at Sea. So when DCL announced they were bringing back SWDAS, and our sailing was one of those, we were so excited! I think that there was just enough Star Wars for one day of it to make it extra special, but not overwhelming for guests who may not be huge Star Wars fans.

What can I expect on Star Wars Day at Sea?

Exclusive Character Meet and Greets:  When we arrived in our stateroom, there was a form to fill out for Character Meet and Greets, as we could not book these ahead of time.  We ranked them from 1-5, and anxiously waited to see what our assignment would be!  Two days later, our assignments magically appeared in our stateroom.  We were meeting Captain Phasma and Chewbacca!  We received tickets for this meet and greet, as well as assigned times.  We met Captain Phasma, did a little shopping and caught some Jedi Training~Trials of the Temple, and then went to see Chewbacca.  These meet and greets were fantastic!  Disney Cruise Line had set up great photo backdrops, and made it an extra special experience for us.

Star Wars Movies:  There was a Star Wars movie playing everyday in the Lake Buena Vista Theater.  But, on Thursday {which was Star Wars Day at Sea}, Rogue One was the evening show in the Walt Disney Theater.  And The Force Awakens and Rogue One also played in the movie theater all day.  Also, Funnel Vision up on Deck 11 was playing Star Wars Rebels continuously.  Not only did they play movies, but when the ship’s horn sounded, they played Star Wars themed music.  So cool!

All Day Star Wars Activities:  Everywhere you turned, there was a Star Wars activity.  Padawan Crafts in the Oceaneer Lab, Galaxy Designers in the Oceaneer Club, Star Wars Day at Sea Wookie Cookies and Scavenger Hunt in VIBE are just a few of activities the kids could enjoy.  My daughter and I decided to visit the D Lounge to do some DIY Light Sabers.  There was also a Star Wars Costume Celebration for fans to dress up and show off their Star Wars costumes. During the evening, they had Star Wars backdrops set up for photos, and this was one sailing where I actually bought the photo USB, and I am so glad I did! There were also Storm Troopers patrolling the pool decks, and posing for photo ops.

Star Wars Themed Foods All Day: To start, some of the desserts in Cabanas were Darth Vader themed. Also, we knew dinner that night was going to be all Star Wars themed foods.   I started my dinner with the Bantha Steak Empanadas, and enjoyed the Qui-Gon’s Crisp Chicken for my entree.  The napkins were folded like Yoda heads, and the kids had fun Star Wars masks to color with activities. Also, our servers were dressed in Star Wars costumes, which made it extra special!  Disney Cruise Line really makes this day unique from start to finish!

Is Star Wars Day at Sea “Worth It”?

As with anything, it depends on your idea of “worth it”. I think that Disney Cruise Line takes a huge fan base, and allows guests to enjoy a taste of it on the cruise line. I think it works well with a 7-night, as you have more days at sea, so you are not missing out on the onboard activities or possible port adventures. I would not book it specifically as a Star Wars Day at Sea, but in turn, it was nice that our sailing ended up being one. With Galaxy’s Edge open at  Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I can see where this would be a perfect addition to a few days pre-cruise in the parks.

Those are just some of the highlights!  The boys enjoyed the Star Wars:  Summon the Force Deck Party with the stage show and fireworks.  Natalie and I spent a lot of time at the pool that day. The Storm Troopers were patrolling the pool deck at various times, which was very cool. Typically, sea days call for crowded pools, but this day wasn’t so bad, as many SW fans were partaking of all the activities onboard.  We watched the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, which looked very cool.  There were also exclusive photo opportunities in the atrium that evening.  All around, they made it an extra special sailing, and we really enjoyed it!

Overall, it was awesome.  I am glad it was just one day of Star Wars, and not an entire cruise of Star Wars. It was just perfect for us!  Have you cruise Disney Cruise Line on a Star Wars Day at Sea?
