Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s

Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s is currently one of several character dining experiences available to guests.  Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Goofy make appearances at this dining location at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s should be on your “must do” Walt Disney World list!

After the Walt Disney World parks reopened in July of 2020, Chef Mickey’s was one of the first character dining experiences to return to the parks and resorts. Chef Mickey’s has been a long time favorite with many families at Walt Disney World.  We have enjoyed dinner there, as well as breakfast on previous trips.   Dining at Chef Mickey’s allows guests of Walt Disney World to enjoy so much magic!

Where is Chef Mickey’s Located?

Chef Mickey’s is located in the atrium of the Contemporary Resort.  To access Chef Mickey’s you can take the monorail from Magic Kingdom, or simply walk over!  We were staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.  So for our breakfast, we took the Pop Century Bus to Magic Kingdom.  After that, we took the walking path to the Contemporary and found our way to Chef Mickey’s.  Admittedly, it was not a quick walk. But, it was convenient and probably more direct than the monorail.

Chef Mickey’s is a great dining experience in a couple of situations.  One, it is perfect for a “non park” day.  It’s easy to get to the Contemporary from nearly anywhere on Disney property.  Plus, you do not feel as if you need to rush through your meal to make it to enjoy a day at the park.  Also, it is a fun departure day experience, if you have a later flight home.

What is the Dining Experience Like at Chef Mickey’s?

One word, fabulous. I LOVE the family style meals they are serving to replace the buffets on Disney property. I hope that Disney continues this procedure as more locations start to open up! First, it is so convenient.  As a mom who has experienced a lot of character dining with little kids, having food brought to you is amazing. It’s so much easier than getting up and down to go to the buffet all the time. Also, your server will bring you refills on anything you ask for!  It does somewhat “limit” the offerings, but in turn the food quality was so much better than buffets we have enjoyed in the past.

Your meal begins with individual fruit and yogurt parfaits for each person, as well as some fresh fruit and pastries.  They serve some cinnamon sugar pastries ~ they remind me of Pooh’s toast at the Crystal Palace, as well as some yummy rolls and a glaze.  So good!

Then, your server brings you hot dishes.  They bring cute Mickey pancakes, Mickey waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and the most amazing cheesy breakfast potatoes on earth. So good! We had plenty to share and eat, and overall the food quality was great.

How is the character experience?

Post reopening, we have enjoyed a few character dining experiences.  Chef Mickey’s has been one of the best!  The characters come out all.the.time.  They come out individually, in pairs, they dance and march around the dining rooms, etc.  Walt Disney World is doing a great job of making it magical and fun, even if you can’t get super close to them!  They have no problem posing for selfies or at a distance with guests.  So cute!

While it is a modified experience, it’s still a magical experience and something I consider “worth” it.  When you are finished with your meal, your server brings you a cute autographed post card for each person at your table.

Overall, our experience at Chef Mickey’s post reopening was awesome.  I would definitely return on a future trip. Our kids have always preferred breakfast at Disney to any other meal.  Who doesn’t love all you can eat Mickey Waffles and POG juice?!

Our overall Opinion of Chef Mickey’s

I booked Chef Mickey’s simply because my teenager requested the POG juice.  This was a graduation trip, so I made and effort to try to make all the dreams come true! It ended up being a magical experience. My teenagers posed with the characters.  The food was REALLY good…if there is one thing my kids can eat it’s a Disney breakfast. I felt as if we ate enough to justify the cost per person. Also, we have experienced this location before, and food was okay.  We were really there for the character interaction. However, I feel as if the family style option allows for fresher food in a timely fashion. Our food was actually really good ~ and we don’t typically go to a character meal because the food is good.  This is one we will definitely do again!
