Chalkboard Advent to Christmas Star
I was compensated with DecoArt Multisurface paints to complete this project. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love using DecoArt Multisurface paints, so when I saw this fun color palette for Christmas, I knew I had to make something fun! We love to have a Christmas countdown in our house, and working in some Biblical character traits is a must as we enjoy the Advent season. You may remember me mentioning this project in our Silhouette Challenge post from this month. So, today I’m going to share with you how I made this Advent Star Christmas Countdown.
Advent Star Christmas Countdown with DecoArt Multisurface Paints
Supplies:
DecoArt Multisurface paints in Turf Green, Cocoa Brown, Snowball, and Lipstick Red; Deco Art Clear Chalkboard Coating
Paint brush, tape
Wood Star cut out, smaller wood stars {I up cycled a previous home decor star we had}
Ribbon or Jute, small clothespins, cut out stars
Directions:
1. Coat the wood star in paint primer. Allow to dry, and tape off a square in the center. Give it a few good coats of Lipstick Red Multisurface Paint.
2. When the red is dry, tape off stripes and add the Turf Green.
3. Paint the square the Cocoa Brown color. Once the Cocoa Brown has dried completely, wash over it horizontally with the Clear Chalkboard Coating.
4. Allow the clear Chalkboard coat to dry for an hour, and then apply a second layer but this time go vertically. While this is drying, paint some smaller wood stars with the Snowball white.
5. Attach the small wood stars to the front of the large star. Between the two, string some ribbon or jute, and affix a small cut out star on it. Write the number 25 in the brown square, and begin counting down to Christmas!
The most important step in this is to allow dry and cure time for your paints. The DecoArt Multisurface paints need time to cure for their best look. I wrote a character trait on each of the stars. We will talk about them at dinner time, and concentrate on emulating them over the Advent season. How easy is that? And I can put it away for next year to bring it out again.
I love the classic Christmas Colors of bright red and green, mixed in with the brown and white shades. So fun! Do you make a Christmas countdown? If so, what do you use?
