DIY “Established” Sign
Every new home or new couple needs an “established” sign. You have seen them ~ something personalized with the year their family or home was “established”. Jumping on the beaded wood trend, you can create a beautiful and personalized DIY “established” sign for your next gift giving event!

If you received a cutting machine as a holiday gift, this is a GREAT beginner project. Let’s get your machine started up and ready to use!
Beaded Wood is gorgeous for a housewarming, wedding shower, or wedding gift! You can easily create a personalized creation for gift giving with a nice wood blank from the craft store and StyleTech Craft adhesive vinyl. I recently created a gift for a newly married couple using a beaded wood blank, and I am excited to share that with you today!
Do you love to give handmade gifts? Whether it is a housewarming, a wedding or baby shower, or a wedding gift, handmade is my favorite way to go. Handmade and personalized gifts are thoughtful, and definitely unique! Much of my favorite home decor stems from items I have either made myself, or something that was gifted to me.
Benefits to Giving Handmade Gifts
Homemade gifts are inherently unique and one-of-a-kind. Since you’re making them yourself, they won’t be mass-produced or easily replicated. This adds a special and exclusive element to the gift. Also, you have the flexibility to customize homemade gifts according to the recipient’s preferences, interests, or needs. This level of personalization can make the gift more meaningful and relevant to the individual.
Handmade gifts can be a frugal, but impressive way, to give a gift to someone. Many times the craft stores will have items on sale, or a coupon to use toward your purchase. Picking up a few blanks while you are out, and having StyleTeach adhesive vinyl on hand saves you time and possibly money!
Homemade gifts often carry a personal touch that commercial gifts may lack. When you take the time and effort to create something with your own hands, it shows that you’ve invested thought and care into the gift.
This easy, DIY “Established” Sign I recently made turned out so cute, and it was easy! I am going to walk you through the process today!
Supplies for a DIY “Established” Sign
- Wood Garland Blank {I found mine at Hobby Lobby}
- StyleTech Craft Adhesive Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tools
- Silhouette Cameo Cutting Machine
- White craft paint
- Paint Brush
How to Make a DIY “Established” Sign
First, sand the wood blank. This makes it smooth, and prepares the surface for the vinyl. After you have sanded it, wipe it down with a clean, microfiber cloth to remove all the stray dust.
Next, give the wood a nice coat of white paint. Set this aside to dry.
Measure the circles on the blank, and open your Silhouette Design Studio software. Choose a font you like, and type the first letter of the last name on your design screen. Continue this with the remaining letters.
Next, type “est ~ XXXX”, replacing the “XXXX” with the year.
Load the vinyl onto your cutting mat, glossy side up. Insert it into the cutting machine. Remove ANY letters or text that you are NOT cutting off the design screen grid, just to the side. For this project, I left the 3 letters of their name “RAU” on the design screen. I moved the “est ~ 2023” to the side because I wanted to cut it in a different color.
Set your machine to Glossy Vinyl Cut Settings, and click “Send”. After this is finished, remove the mat and gently peel the entire sheet of vinyl off of the cutting mat.
Repeat the process with the “est ~ XXXX” design.
Next, weed the extra vinyl so you are only left with the cut letters.
Add some transfer tape to the glossy side of the letter, and gently peel the backing off. Position this on your blank. Smooth over the transfer tape with a burnishing tool to assure it is adhered to the blank. Then, gently peel off the transfer tape. Repeat this process with the remaining text.
How cute is this? Isn’t this a fun design to give as a housewarming or wedding gift?
