Fall is my favorite. No question, hands down, I wait all year for the “ber” months to arrive. SeptemBER, OctoBER, and NovemBER are my absolute favorite! The colors, cozy food and drinks, all things pumpkin, and adding fall decor to my house make me happy. If you are looking for an easy, frugal, and beautiful addition to your fall decor, these farmhouse candles are just it!
The Dollar Tree is really one of my favorite places to find blanks for vinyl crafting. They have unique, seasonal items, as well as cute crates and bins just waiting for some sort of vinyl enhancements! I often have my eye on their clear glass candles, and thought these would be perfect to add to my fall line up this year!
Sometimes a simple addition to a seasonal decor is just what is needed. Most, if not all, of my fall decor has been handmade-and I still use it! But, adding a few things here and there just freshens it up.
To make these easy Fall Farmhouse Candles, you just need a few simple supplies:
Glass Candles from the Dollar Tree. Our store had several colors, but I think white makes the best background for the vinyl I want to use. I definitely think that if your store has an orange or red, those would be pretty as well!
Adhesive Vinyl. I used the metalized adhesive vinyl from StyleTech Craft in a dark brown and an orange tone. They are such perfect fall colors, and the finish looks amazing on these candles!
Ribbon, jute, etc. For this, I wanted to add just a little something extra, so I added some pretty vintage lace ribbon around the top edge of my candle.
Cutting Machine & Tools. For this project, as with all my vinyl projects, I use a Silhouette Cameo. You will also need a cutting mat, transfer tape, and weeding tools.
How to Make Fall Farmhouse Dollar Tree Candles
First, prepare your candle to adhere the vinyl. To do so, give it a nice coat of rubbing alcohol with a soft cloth and let it dry.
Next, add the ribbon or accent to the top edge of your candle. Then the remaining space, measure for your text you will apply later.
Then, decide on a font for your text. I used the words “gather” and “thankful” in the “Chocolate” font. Type your words on your design screen, and size it to fit your candle space. Be sure to take into account the jute or ribbon you have added to the top of your candle.
Next, add the adhesive vinyl to the cutting mat. Load the mat to the machine, and set up your cut for the type of vinyl you are using. Keep in mind, that glitter, glossy, and other finishes of vinyl may have different settings to cut.
Send your file to cut. Remove the mat, and gently peel off the vinyl. Weed the excess vinyl from your cut, and it should look like this:
When you have weeded it all, place a piece of transfer tape over the text. Press the transfer tape firmly on the vinyl to make sure it is secure, then gently remove the backing from the vinyl.
Align the text on the candle, and smooth it so there are no air bubbles. Then, starting at a corner and gently pulling back at an angle, remove the transfer tape. Quick tip-start at the middle of your candle and work your way out when adding the vinyl to the candle. Since the area is curved, this will make it easier.
Working from the middle out, gently press the vinyl so it is sealed to the candle.
The possibilities with these candles and seasonal decor is endless! This would be a great idea for holiday gifts and decor as well!
