We are moving into a new house, and I am going to have a three season room! I am ridiculously excited about this room. It’s my favorite in our new home, and I have been gathering ideas to make it our own! With the huge windows and amount of sunlight that will be in there, I decided that some DIY Farmhouse Style Flower Pots were in order! These flower pots will be perfect with some plants in our three season room.
I happened upon these cute flower pots at the craft store recently, and knew they would make the perfect background for the Style Tech Craft Matte Removable Vinyl. I used a file that already existed in my Silhouette Library, and downloaded the THINK BIG font from DaFont.
When to Use Removable Vinyl
Permanent adhesive vinyl and heat transfer vinyl are the vinyl types I most use. However, I have found that removable vinyl is also durable and useful! Removable vinyl is great for things like labeling your pantry containers, creating seasonal decor so you can easily change it season to season, or creating decals for kitchen appliances. It’s also ideal for laptop decals or window clings. There are so many great things you can make with removable vinyl, and I’m going to share these flower pots with you!

How to Make DIY Farmhouse Style Flower Pots
First, wipe off the flower pots to get any dust or debris off and set them aside. Next, you are going to set up your cut file.
Second, open the design software on your computer. Now, choose a font, and type the words “plant, bloom, grow” one at a time. Then, open the file library and find a complimentary file that can frame your words. I have a laurel leaf border that came with my software. It is perfect for this project. Add this to your design screen.
Third, select a piece of text and move it into the middle of the laurel leaf and center it. Repeat this by duplicating the laurel leaf two more times and adding a word to the middle. When you are finished, your screen should look like this:
Fourth, it is time to cut your design. This is one of my favorite tricks in the Silhouette Design software ~ using the cut / no cut function. When you are on the cut screen, there is a menu to the right that says “No Cut, Cut”, etc. By choosing these, you can tell the machine what to cut, and not to cut. That way, you do not have to deconstruct your entire design to cut in different colors.
Next, click on the laurel leaf, top and bottom, and choose “No Cut”. Repeat this on all 3 leaves. Next, load the mat with the white vinyl, and then, send your text to cut. You should only be cutting the “plant, bloom, grow” piece of your file. When that is finished, select the laurel leaves again, and click on “Cut”. Then, click on each word and choose “No Cut”. Load the green vinyl into the machine, and send it to cut the laurel leaves.
After everything is cut, you should have 6 items. Three words and three laurel leaves!
Now it’s time to place your decals on the pots. Lay a laurel leaf face down, on the sticky side of the transfer tape. Smooth over the back, and at an angle, gently peel the backing off the laurel leaf. From here, align it on the flower pot, and smooth the transfer tape down, gently but firmly pressing across the design. Then, gently peel the transfer tape off and your laurel leaf should be adhered to your flower pot. Repeat this with all 3 pots.
Finally, following the same procedure, add the text to your flower pot.
How fresh and fun are these DIY Farmhouse Style Flower Pots? Using matte removable vinyl gives you so many opportunities! Growing an herb garden? Change the decal to the name of the herb in the pot! Or, customize them for a holiday by adding a cute pumpkin or seasonal text to them. You can decorate with them year round!
