DIY “HOME” Coordinates Sign

Have you seen those fun “HOME” coordinates signs? These cute, trendy “home” coordinates signs are so easy to make, and make a great gift. DIY signs are one of my favorite gifts to give, and to make for our own home! I created one as a going away gift for a church staff member, and I am so excited to share it with you today!

You have seen them…..they are signs that everyone seems to have lately with their coordinates of their location on them. The “HOME” Coordinates signs have become super popular, and are so easy to make yourself!

Unique signs are so popular in home decor right now, especially the home coordinates signs. No one has the same coordinates as you, or your special location. There are so many ways to personalize them, and make them perfect for your space. I think they are extra fun on a gallery wall or in the entry way!

The DIY home coordinates signs are perfect to keep up year round. My favorite thing about making signs is personalizing them. For this particular sign, I used a file I found online with the word “HOME”, and the “O” is the shape of Ohio. Perfect! Adding the latitude and longitude of a special place, in this case our church, made it an extra special going away gift.

After some searching online, I found a “HOME” file that was already set up to use in my Silhouette Design Studio. Sometimes I create my own designs, sometimes I use something already made. For this project, I found a nice square piece of wood at Hobby Lobby, and decided to use StyleTech Craft Gloss and Luster Vinyl. They are a perfect combo for this type of project!

How to Make a Coordinates Sign:

First, find your coordinates and write them down. I used Google Maps to do this for my project.

Choose your design, download it to your computer, and add it to your design software. For this project, I visited HelloSVG and chose a “HOME” file with the shape of Ohio as the “O”.

Next, add this to your Design Studio, and size it to match the wood blank you have.

Then, add a text box. In here, type your coordinates you are using. For this piece, I used the American Typewriter Font.

After you have added your coordinates, adjust their size so they are centered to your “HOME” design. Make sure they are ungrouped from your HOME design before you cut them.

Remove the coordinates from the design screen by selecting them, and dragging them off to the side.

Load the gloss vinyl to the cutting mat, and send it to cut the HOME file. Set this aside. Move the HOME to the side of the design screen, and then drag the coordinates text onto the design screen. Add the luster vinly to the cutting mat, and send the coordinates to cut.

Next, begin weeding the excess vinyl from your cuts.

Cover the HOME with transfer tape, and burnish it with the burnishing tool. Turn it over, and gently peel the backing off. Align your design on the blank, and gently place it where you want it. From here, gently smooth down the design and make sure it’s adhered to the surface.

Starting at the corner, and gently peeling back at an angle, remove the transfer tape. Repeat this process with the coordinates.

What do you think of this coordinates sign? Adding the location of our church makes it super special and unique for the recipient. Have you created one of these fun signs?
