DIY Lightsaber Magnets
One of our favorite ways to get settled into our Disney Cruise Line stateroom is to decorate the door! There are so many cute, easy ways to personalize your stateroom door! I had found some Mickey bodies on Etsy, which I am giving away as part of this Disney Land and Sea Giveaway that is going on right now, and then used some cardstock and simple Mickey head shapes to cut out decorations for our Disney Dream sailing last year. This time, for our Star Wars Day at Sea sailing on the Disney Fantasy, I decided to go one step further and decorate our door with some DIY Lightsaber Magnets!
DIY Lightsaber Magnets Supplies:
Cardstock of various colors
Silhouette Cameo, or similar, craft cutting machine
651 Adhesive Vinyl
Transfer Tape
Lightsaber cut file {I found mine in a Facebook group that shares cut files}
Glue Stick
Business card size magnets
Directions:
Download and set up the Lightsaber File in your cutting software. At the top of your screen, you will see “Object”. Click on that, and on the drop down menu, choose “Replicate”. This will allow you to set up three lightsabers on your cutting mat. Next, choose “Rotate” on your “Object” drop down menu. Rotate the lightsabers so they are opposite of each other. This fits them on your page easier so you can cut three of them at once. Load your black cardstock on your cutting mat and choose “Cardstock” from the cut menu. Adjust the blade accordingly, and send it to cut.
This fits them on your page easier so you can cut three of them at once. Load your black cardstock on your cutting mat and choose “Cardstock” from the cut menu. Adjust the blade accordingly, and send it to cut. When you remove the mat from your cutting machine, and weed off the excess cardstock, they should look like this:
Next, select your lightsaber details, seen in the bottom left of the screen below, and group them. To group them, select them all together. Then, right click on the box and choose “Group”. This will allow you to move them all into the design area at once, not piece by piece. Move them into the design area and load the color of cardstock that you want to cut in the machine. You will want to place the long lightsaber detail AND the smaller pieces on your cutting machine so you can cut them at the same time.
When you are finished and have weeded out the excess, you should have all the little detail pieces in front of you.
Now it’s time to cut your names. Load your mat with 651 Adhesive Vinyl, and set up your names with the STAR JEDI font to cut.
Transfer these onto your long, colored light saber piece and then glue this to your black lightsaber outline.
Assemble the remainder of your lightsaber details with a glue stick and the smaller pieces. When finished, it should look like this:
Finally, add the magnet to the back. I like to use the business card size ones because they hold well, and they are nice and flat. When you are finished, you will have lightsabers to hang on your Disney Cruise Line door!
