Creating Christmas decor is possibly my favorite thing ever. I love sitting down with my vinyl machine, some blanks, and seeing what happens.  After I created this Names of Christ Countdown last year, I had some of the cute wooden stars left, and this Mini Star Christmas Garland was born.

We have some smaller spaces in our home that we decorate for Christmas, including a shelf in our entryway. We do the traditional stockings on the mantel, so I treat the entryway shelf and desk as sort of a secondary mantel when it comes to seasonal decor.  I decided that our gathering basket was the perfect backdrop for some easy Christmas decor, and this wooden star garland was born. I can’t wait to share this with you!

Star Christmas Garland Supplies

Mini Wood Stars

Spray Paint or Acrylic Paint

Vinyl Cutting Machine

Adhesive Vinyl

Vinyl Transfer Tape

Sandpaper

Weeding Tools

Fishing Wire

Small Clothespins

How to Make an Easy Christmas Star Garland

First, paint your stars evenly with a coat of paint.  Since I wanted to distress my wood stars, I painted them gray first, and then over again with green.

Second, distress the wood.  To do so, use a piece of sandpaper and gently start sanding the star. This gives it a rustic, distressed look by bringing out the first color you painted.  {you can skip this step if you are only going with one color}

Next, set up your cut file.  For this project, I cut the letters of”PEACE”and then I  put one of these on each of 5 stars.  This is cut from the StyleTech Craft Ultra FX Infrared FX color.

Then, I cut an angel for each of the remaining 2 stars.  For this, I used the Luster Silver vinyl.

Using the transfer tape, adhere the letters and angels to the stars.

To string the garland, I tied the fishing line to each end of the basket, kind of tucking it into the weave. Then, I added the stars secured with the clothespins.

Now, we have a cute Christmas detail for our entryway!

What words bring Christmas to your mind? Peace? Joy? Love? Noel? You can create ANY of those, and more and truly customize this project!
