EPCOT….next to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT vies for the top spot on my list of favorite Disney Parks. Where else can you feel like a “world traveler” without leaving the United States? Or experience what was once Walt Disney’s vision of the future? This is an amazing Walt Disney World park, and w...
Happy 90th birthday to Margaret Kerry, Tinker Bell herself!
A veteran of such films as the Our Gang (Little Rascals) series, Kerry was hired by Disney as a live-action reference for Tinker Bell in 1953's Peter Pan (Tink was not based on Marilyn Monroe, contrary to the urban legend.)
Up until that point, Tinker Bell had only been depicted as a flicker of light. Walt's animators decided to make her a small pixie with human features. They sought someone who was an expert at dance and pantomime who could play the role for them on camera, so that they could have a basis for their drawings. Kerry was hired for the role and spent the next six months working on the Disney Studio lot, amongst many oversized props. She also acted and voiced the role of the red headed mermaid in Neverland's lagoon.
An accomplished voice over artist and radio host, Margaret Kerry was featured in the cartoons Clutch Cargo and The New Three Stooges, as well as on camera in classic TV shows like The Lone Ranger and Andy Griffith.
In 2016, her fascinating autobiography, "Tinker Bell Talks" was published. Ms. Kerry is still active as a Disney ambassador, making appearances at conventions and Disney sites, like Walt's Carolwood Barn in L.A.'s Griffith Park, all around the country. Fans everywhere love her.
Thanks for all of the pixie dust and memories, Ms. Kerry.
