Hi! My name is Danielle and I, along with my three sisters, run The Domestic Four. I ‘met’ Carrie a few years ago and, because we share many of the same interests, have remained in contact over the years. I love following her blog (I’m a big Disney nerd too!) and seeing all the fun DIYs she comes up with. Today I’m going to share a quick little wall art idea I came up with to spruce up the reading area in our playroom.
I have three kiddos of my own but also run an in-home daycare, so a fun and engaging reading area is a must! I started with three basic things that can all be purchased at your local Walmart or craft store.
The frame I actually had at my house but I did see that you can now purchase unfinished materials (like frames and faux wood pieces) in the craft section at Walmart *thank you Joanna Gaines* so not to worry if you don’t have a craft supply store nearby! You’ll also need wooden letters to spell the word/name of your choice and scrapbook paper as well as glue (I used a good ol’ glue stick and glue gun), scissors, a ruler and pen or pencil.
The first thing I did was to lay out each of the letters on the front side of the paper. This is really only necessary if you have a variation in the pattern. Because I chose paper with faux wood grain I knew there were places I wanted the letters to land. I placed each letter making a few marks around the outer edges.
I then flipped the paper over and placed the letters backwards on the back-side of the paper, gently pressing to make sure I was lined up about where my marks were. I then traced and cut out each letter and attached the paper to the wood with a glue stick.
After finishing each letter I placed them on the frame measuring around the margins to be sure the letters were, for the most part, straight and centered then attached each of the letters to the frame with a glue gun.
I let it sit for 30 minutes or so and it was good to go! I was looking for a simple solution to a blah area and I think I did quite alright. It’s super cute and was very simple to make. Here is the finished product in our reading area, fun right?
If you’re hanging out online, be sure to stop by and say Hi! You can find me on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We’d love for you to join our community of moms! Thanks for hanging with me today and thanks to Carrie for letting me come to ‘visit’, I hope you have an amazing vacation!
