Pretzels are my absolute favorite food, right behind popcorn. In fact, combining both popcorn and pretzels in a snack bowl, and I am a very happy snacker! I attribute my love of pretzels….and popcorn mixed together…to my grandma. This is a snack we would frequently have while watching Lawrence Welk or Wheel of Fortune. Fast forward to today, and pretzels are a snack that I always have on hand. Every once in a while, I like to add some spice or sugar to them and serve them at a party or while watching football. Today, I am going to share my Spicy Party Pretzels with you!
These Spicy Party Pretzels are nothing short of addictive. They go so well with your favorite adult beverage, lemonade, or just about anything. I have to say, spicy foods aren’t usually my “go to”, but these are mighty addicting and once I start eating them…no matter how much my mouth is on fire….I don’t want to stop. If you head to Pinterest and search for a spicy pretzel recipe, 99.999% of them have ranch dressing mix in them. Now, I am not “anti-ranch”, but it isn’t something I ever have on hand. And when sharing a recipe with you, on hand ingredients is one of my top priorities.
You’ll find yourself baking these up in about an hour, and snacking on them all.day.long. These also make a great homemade gift, as they keep well in an airtight container for quite awhile. Don’t be afraid to throw some in a mason jar or a cute cello-bag and gift them to your favorite bus driver, teacher, neighbor, etc.
Spicy Party Pretzels:
1 16 oz Bag Twisted Pretzels
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons lemon pepper seasoning
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Combine the oil and seasonings in a gallon size zip loc bag and then add the pretzels. Seal it tightly, and shake the bag a few times to evenly distribute the seasonings and oil. Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 200 degrees for one hour. Be sure to stir them every 15 minutes to keep the spices distributed and to avoid burning the pretzels.
Really, any shape of pretzel will work. But the twisted ones tend to be a bit thicker, so I think they hold the seasoning better.
Mix these up…you’ll be glad you did! And so will your party guests, and your family, and your bus drivers, teachers…..they are amazing!
