The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Walt Disney World Resort for Your Family in 2026

Choosing where to stay at Walt Disney World is a big decision, especially for families or multigenerational groups. With over two dozen resorts, each with its own theme, size, and transportation perks, it can feel overwhelming. But don’t worry! Here’s how to find the perfect resort for your family in 2026.

I can say that I have stayed at nearly EVERY Walt Disney World Resort on property. I am not sure if that is something to be proud of–but it goes to show you how many times I have been and that I have experience! So far, I need to stay at Disney’s Riviera Resort and the All Stars. Riviera definitely is on my radar, the All Stars not so much…but that is a post for another day. Let’s just say I am a Deluxe girl all the way, and even staying at a Moderate Walt Disney World resort can be a stretch for me at this point in my Disney travel preferences.

However, I have put together a list of the resorts, what stands out, and why you may want to consider these for your family when traveling to Walt Disney World in 2026!

Choosing the Best Walt Disney World Resort in 2026

Walt Disney World Resorts for Families with Young Children

Most, if not all, first Walt Disney World trips involve littles. And we all know, that with littles also comes some challenges and magical experiences when planning a Disney trip!

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is hard to beat. This has become a FANTASTIC option, especially when you are traveling with young children.

  • Family suites! The family suites are not only adorably themed, but also have TONS of space. We are talking two full bathrooms, a master bedroom for the parents, and plenty of square footage to store all the things. Strollers, luggage, souvenirs….you get it.
  • Nemo, Cars, and Lion King theming in the suites. The theming of the suites is perfect for families with kiddos who want that immersive Disney feel. Who wouldn’t love being surrounded by their favorite characters? Staying here while your kiddos are still young will make for magical memories. Who knows if they will still want to enjoy a Cars themed suite when they are 12?
  • Easy Skyliner access. The Skyliner is a total game changer for Walt Disney World travel. This easy access transportation makes getting to and from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios super convenient. Plus, you don’t even have to fold your stroller!

For Multigenerational Families

If you are arriving at Walt Disney World with ALL the grandparents, cousins, etc, then you’ll want a true retreat of a resort. Everyone will be ready for a break, from the parks or each other at some point. Having a resort that is easy to access with spacious rooms and a little bit of luxury for everyone will make your multigenerational trip seamless.

Consider these resorts for multigenerational travel. These all offer spacious rooms, great dining, and relaxing common spaces for grandparents who want comfort and convenience!

Whether the teenagers are out the door late and meeting the adults later, or the adults are having a leisurely morning while the teens want to Rope Drop Guardians, a Skyliner Resort is a very convenient and sensible option.

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach ResortCaribbean Beach understands that teens need their own space without feeling too far from the family. The sprawling layout means you can book connecting rooms or adjacent buildings, giving teenagers independence while keeping everyone close. The Skyliner isn’t just transportation—it’s an experience teens actually think is cool, plus it delivers them straight to EPCOT’s world showcase–and who doesn’t love being close to all the good food in World Showcase! Not to mention the literal hop skip and jump to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The multiple themed pools give teens options to relax without little siblings tagging along, and the resort’s laid-back island theming just sets the tone for a perfect trip.
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort–Pop Century is a HUGE win for everyone–the nostalgic theming speaks for itself! Even if they do not admit it, teenagers are genuinely interested when grandparents geek out over their childhood decades immortalized in larger-than-life icons. And you will have that at Pop Century! The resort’s energy appeals to everyone, and the Skyliner gives the teenagers easy access to the parks without waiting for slow-moving family members. The food court’s has some quick, easy, family friendly options as well, making feeding your family super easy!

“What does our family want this trip to feel like?”–Relaxation, convenience, and great dining options are the ones I hear the most. Yes, it’s possible to achieve all three when visiting Walt Disney World! And quite honestly, a lot of this stems from the resort you choose. Keep in mind that your Walt Disney World Resort is NOT “just a place to sleep”.

Magical? Relaxed? Adventurous? Convenient? —yes, yes, and yes. As you can see from the options here, all of them have a few things in common. They have multiple transportation options to the theme parks. They are centrally located on property, and have amenities that meet the needs of everyone in your family.
