How to Cut Paper Flowers
Cutting paper flowers is so easy, and impressive, when you use your Silhouette Cameo. I have cut paper flowers for wall decor in my daughter’s room, and most recently to create a cute spring wreath for our front door. I can’t wait to share with you how to cut paper flowers!
In Ohio, winter and spring seem to be THE longest months ever. I always have visions of cute winter decor after Christmas, and then before I know it….it’s a little warmer and spring is here! I recently learned how to cut paper flowers with my Silhouette Cameo. I first cut some to create 3D flowers for my daughter’s room. It was SO easy, and you can make them match whatever your decor is at the moment. Plus, they aren’t permanent, and can be easy to remove if you hang them with the right tools. I have made two wreaths with paper flowers, and each time they turn out super cute!
We had our Snowflake Christmas wreath up for the holidays, and then I just didn’t get around to making an “in between” wreath-like my Ribbon and Glitter Wreath–from last winter. I think I hit a case of the winter blahs….I mean, when it’s 20 degrees outside {tops} for weeks upon weeks, I don’t feel like doing anything! However, now that spring is “right around the corner”….or so they say….I took the time to cut some paper flowers for a wreath, and I LOVE them!
I had previously created some 3D Flowers for my daughter’s room. They have held up really well, and I love them. Combine those, with one of my new FAVORITE Silhouette supplies-Adhesive Backed Cardstock-and I present to you my 3D Spring Flower Wreath.
Paper Flower Supplies
Silhouette Cutting Machine
Wreath form
Burlap, ribbon, yarn, etc.
T-pins
Hot glue
Silhouette Adhesive Backed Cardstock, scrapbook paper, cardstock, etc.
How to Cut Paper Flowers:
1. Trace a basic flower shape on your Silhouette software. You can probably find a file for free on Pinterest! From here, size it to the preferred size. I created two sizes, so I could layer them. Set your machine to cut cardstock, and send your paper to cut.
2. Wrap the wreath form in burlap, ribbon, yarn to cover the foam. I wrapped mine in burlap.
3. Score the large flowers with an “x” and fold along the scored lines. Open it. Then, fold again to create a 3D effect.
4. Gently score the smaller flowers as well. Adhere these to the larger flowers in the center.
5. Embellish with a small glass bead to create the center of your flower.
6. Arrange the flowers on the wreath form, and hot glue these to the wrapped wreath form.
I think that if you used a wood wreath form, that the large flowers would stick to this. Obviously, I had to glue those on because they wouldn’t last long on the burlap. However, the smaller center ones fit perfectly and stick well to the larger flowers. Also, any cardstock will work. I just like the simplicity of the adhesive backed cardstock. It makes it much simpler!

That adhesive-backed cardstock is pretty darn amazing, isn’t it? It’s just SO easy to work with! Right now, I just have black, gray, and white…I need to broaden my horizons so I springy colors like you do. The wreath is simply stunning, Carrie! Well done!
