How to Make a DIY Glass Block Nightlight

Making a DIY glass block nightlight is the perfect way to add a personal touch to your home decor. Whether it is for a child’s room, the hallway, or your own room, these are so easy and fun to make!

Glass blocks are one of the best crafting blanks, in my opinion. You can find them in several sizes and shapes, and they take little prep work when applying vinyl. A DIY Glass Block Nightlight makes an easy and thougthful holiday gift, and you can easily make several in just one afternoon. They also make a great baby shower or housewarming gift!

This is a sponsored post.  I was provided product from StyleTech Craft for this project.  All opinions are my own. Materials for a DIY Glass Block Nightlight

  • Glass block
  • Silhouette Cameo cutting machine
  • StyleTech Craft Vinyl {I used both a glitter and gloss finish}
  • Transfer Tape
  • Weeding Tools
  • Fairy or mini lights

For this particular project, I used a rectangle glass block. I also picked up some battery powered unicorn string lights. While I have frosted the glass block in previous projects, this one I decided to leave it clear. Frosted makes a nice finish, as well.

How to Make a DIY Glass Block Nightlight

First, remove any stickers or labels from your glass block. Using hot water or residue remover, remove all the sticker and residue. Then, prepare your surface for the vinyl by giving it a nice swipe with some rubbing alcohol. Set it aside to dry.

While this is drying, set up your cut file in your software. For this project, I added my niece’s name and some cute moon and star shapes.

Using the group function, group your text and object together. Size it to fit your surface. Then, ungroup the objects and set aside the moon and stars in the gray area on your software.

Add the glitter vinyl to the cutting mat and load it into your machine. Send it to cut.

Then, select the text on your design screen and remove it to the gray area. From here, take the moon and stars and add them to the design area since this is your next cut. Add the glossy vinyl to your cutting mat, and cut the moon and stars.

After your designs are cut, begin weeding the excess vinyl from your design.

Next, cover your text with transfer tape. Remove the backing from the design so the adhesive is exposed. Align your design on the block, and gently remove the transfer tape. Smooth out any air bubbles with a burnishing tool.

To add the moon and stars, repeat this process.

When you have finished adding your vinyl, insert the lights in your block.

Creating a DIY Glass Block Nightlight is so easy-and I love the personal touch!
